Bird Tales
Years ago, I had a small farm in MI where we raised birds such as ducks, geese, turkey and chickens. My two children enjoyed the requirements of caring for the birds as they grew up (The kids and the birds), but with most kids every farm animal is a pet! For the most part, all the birds had names and were talked to no different than we treat our dog or cat.
Unfortunately, with all living things there comes injury, disease, and birth defects. It’s natural for a child (or adult) to want to help an animal with such issues and it’s not uncommon for leg issues with hatch-lings. Products were not available back then to assist with situations like this. I was fortunate to have a chance to help with a 4-wheel devise to help a disabled duck become mobile. And after it was publicized, I was amazed to see how many people feel the same way we do here at Handicapped Pets! You can see the excitement and joy in an animal’s reactions to being able to do the things it couldn’t before that were meant to be.
I wish I knew back then the things I know now.
